Hi! Welcome to The Harried Cook!
I am Marsha - a wife, mother, daughter, friend, cook, baker and a lover of good food. For as long as I can remember, I've been scribbling down recipes on pieces of paper, napkins, notebooks, text books, mobile phone memos and pretty much anywhere possible. And needless to say, most of those recipes never get cooked, because they never get found.
In February of 2011, I was making my favorite Lime Curd Cupcakes. As I stirred the bubbling lime curd, it struck me (finally!) that I need to find a way to save these recipes - if not for myself, at least for my 16 month old daughter. And so, this blog was born.
To tell you about me - My faith is very important to me. I love the Lord and I honestly can say that He is my strength. I talk to Him and He gives me a reason to keep going on even in the tough times. I am so grateful that someone told me about Him many years ago, and I hope I can help a few people along the way by teaching them to lean on Him.
I tend to be a worry-wart and all round busybody. And so, I thought The Harried Cook seemed like a suitable name. Someone pointed out to me that I won't always be a mom chasing after her toddler, and I may not feel so harried later in life. But if you know me well, you will know that I am incapable of NOT being harried. The name is here to stay. I originally wanted to call my blog "Cook. Eat. Sleep. Repeat.". But then, I thought "Ha! You wish!" There is just so much happening these days, that I sometimes contemplate running away and start a new life in a city where no one knows me. But I won't.
I love food and all things related to food - food shopping, food books, food magazines, food shows, food reviews, food eating, food making, food, food food... So, in this blog, I am going to try to chronicle my attempts (both the successful & the not-so-successful) at cooking & baking. I know it's not exactly a novel idea, but I believe food blogs are great & there is no such things as too much of a great thing.
At the time that I am writing this, this blog is exactly 2 months old. I am happy with what I have gained so far - great recipes, tremendous inspiration and most of all - fabulous relationships with some fantastic bloggers. I can even say I have made a couple of friends. That makes me really happy.
Through this blog, I hope to find & befriend kindred spirits, cook some good food, share what I learn along the way and most of all - I hope to leave something that my daughter will be proud of one day!
Update - March 2013: Now I have TWO daughters who are going to inherit this blog! Zoe Hope Thompson was born on January 23rd is an absolute delight! I haven't been able to blog and may not be able to for a while, but you can be sure that I won't let it die out.
Thank you for stopping by my blog & taking the time to read this! I hope you will come back for more! Thank you for your support!
